Bridge Across Interstate 8 key to Peninsular Bighorn Sheep Survival

Over the past decade, more than two dozen Peninsular bighorn sheep have been struck and killed while trying to cross I-8 in the rocky, mountainous region where San Diego and Imperial counties meet. An effort is now underway, with a key first step completed earlier this year, to build one of the state’s first wildlife bridges. The envisioned overpass, now in the planning stages after securing grant funding, would facilitate the natural movements of the endangered species.
