Celebrating San Diegan Biodiversity September 6-14 for California’s 2025 Biodiversity Week!

As August rolls into September, California is preparing to celebrate biodiversity across the state through locally-held events! These events include everything from educational nature walks guided by environmental scientists, to citizen science events where participants get the opportunity to observe and record sightings of local flora and fauna on iNaturalist. This year, California Biodiversity Week celebrations overlap with Latino Conservation Week, Climate Action Counts Month, and Girl Scouts Love State Parks, so check out those websites for even more opportunities to enjoy biodiversity.

In an effort to highlight local San Diego Biodiversity Week events, the Environmental Center of San Diego has put together a website hosting an interactive map showing all events located throughout San Diego County (with information courtesy of 30×30 California). Check it out below!

If you can’t make it to any of these events, but still want to participate in the celebrations, you can join the Find 30 Species for California Biodiversity Week project on iNaturalist. By submitting 30 observations of wild species from September 6-14, your efforts will help develop a better understanding of California’s incredible biodiversity, and the data collected will inform the California 30×30 Initiative.
